About 3DLES
History & future
1999 3DLES is a division of Nixward New Media Creations that started in 1999 as an independant web designer, using html and Flash to create interactive websites for educational institutes.

Nick Zwart - recording studio

2001 Nixward started a recording studio where sounds and music for multimedia, school projects, singers and musicals is composed, arranged and recorded.
2007 Investigated the use of virtual worlds for education and managed a Dutch educational island on Teen Second Life, commisioned by Digischool, where several projects and ideas were tested.
2009 Left TeenSL and started working on the Opensimulator grid of virtyou, building several Dutch educational projects like Chatterdale, the virtual English language village. More about the projects you can find at the project page.
2010 Nixward became member of EDUsim-NL, the Dutch virtual world for education. Implemented the basic Sloodle objects for the Opensimulator environment.


3DLES was founded as a division of Nixward, which focuses on education in virtual worlds, project management, integration and adaption of social media and other services into virtual worlds, 3D-modeling and programming of buildings/facilities for education.


3DLES joins forces with virtyou GmbH from Germany.

Nick Zwart
Managing Director

Studied music, ICT and theology in Amsterdam (Fontys University) where he specialized in new media for religious education.
Has worked as a teacher in several schools and taught the master degree 'new media and religion' at Fontys University of Appleid Science in Amsterdam.
For more then a decade he works as a community manager for Kennisnet which is the leading expert when it comes to ICT in education in the Netherlands.
He also works for the University of Alcalá de Henares in Spain programming for language training in OpenSim.
Currently he holds the position of CEO of 3DLES, a company that is specialised in 3D Learning Experience Services with a focus on education in Opensim.

Lodewien Knottnerus
Creative Director
Studied arts and design in Utrecht. Specialised in virtual worlds design, texture creation, project management & control.

John van Meer
Technical manager
Studied at the Utrecht school of the Arts, MA Creative Design for Digital Cultures. Specialised in virtual worlds building and scripting.
